Tutorials

You can book a virtual or face to face 30-minute tutorial to discuss your academic development e.g. skills such as paraphrasing, referencing, academic writing as well as maths know-how and computing skills. We can also help you navigate your virtual learning environments and help with queries regarding accessing online resources.

How do I book a tutorial?

To book a tutorial, please visit your Virtual Learning Environment . There you will find the link to our booking page, where you can choose a suitable day and time for your tutorial. You can also choose face to face or online.

How long are the tutorials?

Tutorials last for 30 minutes. If you require more time it is possible to book more than one appointment.

Where do tutorials take place?

Tutorials take place both face to face and online (on Zoom or WebEx).

Please note that we do not proofread whole assignments and will not make any corrections for you. Our job is to help you understand how you can improve and to support you in making any changes yourself.

Can I receive written feedback via email?

The ACE Team does not send written feedback via email. You are welcome to send your assignment in advance of any tutorial, but the feedback will be given in the allocated tutorial time.

Workshops

We offer ongoing support workshops on a variety of academic subjects such as structuring an argument, academic style, and criticality as well as maths know-how computing skills. Along with these workshops, we hold drop-in sessions on topics such as referencing, in which you get the opportunity to ask questions and discuss answers with an ACE team member and other students.

How long are the workshops?

Workshops run for approximately 45-60 minutes.

How can I join a workshop?

To join a workshop, please view the schedule on your VLE where you will find a link and full joining instructions. Also, look out for emails and announcements from the ACE Team where we will share the links.

Do I need to sign up or register?

No, you do not need to sign up. However, you can sign up using our booking page (look for the link on the ACE page on your Virtual Learning Environment) and you will receive a calendar invite along with a reminder one hour before. Alternatively, you can click the link on your VLE at the time of the workshop. You do not need to prepare anything to bring to the workshop.

Are the workshops recorded?

We do not record the live workshops but a video for each topic is available to view on your VLE.

What if I miss a workshop?

If you miss a workshop that you wanted to attend, you can book a one-to-one tutorial where we can go through the content with you. You can also watch our videos and other materials on your VLE related to that topic. Finally, we often repeat our workshops so keep an eye out for another date and time on the workshop schedule.

What will I learn during the workshops?

In the workshops, we will explain and demonstrate how to improve different academic skills. The workshops are interactive so we will set small activities and tasks for you to practice what you are learning.

Book on to a workshop, a one-to-one appointment or access learning materials from your VLE.
